Buffalo Bayou Brewing

Craft Brewery · Houston

Fundraising Creative

A six-year-old brand, one day of clarity, and $1M raised in six weeks.

Rassul Zarinfar and his team at Buffalo Bayou Brewing came in thinking they needed a crowdfunding video. What they needed — and what we built — was a messaging system sharp enough that the video became the least of it.

“We just closed a $1 million crowdfunding campaign in six weeks. And I couldn’t have done it without Taylor.”
Rassul Zarinfar · Founder, Buffalo Bayou Brewing

The Challenge

Buff Brew had built a fiercely opinionated brand over six years — but the team’s own self-awareness had become the danger. When a leadership group knows the brand well enough, the small contradictions (the voice over beers vs. the voice on social, the founder story vs. the customer promise) start to feel like personality rather than friction. From the outside, they read as two different brands fighting inside one company.

A crowdfunding campaign couldn’t paper over that. A raise puts the brand under a spotlight in front of prospective investors and customers at the same time. Before we shot a frame or wrote a page of campaign copy, the voice had to be sharpened from the inside.

The Approach · Clarity Sprint

One room, one day — and the gem was already there.

I got the full Buff Brew leadership team in a room for a single day. Founder voice, customer voice, hero copy, taproom voice, investor voice — every piece of how they talked about themselves went on the wall. Then we walked it all back to what was actually, defensibly true.

The output wasn’t a new brand. It was the old brand, polished and turned a half-turn so the team could see it from a different angle. One voice. One promise. One sharpened message every person could run on autopilot without checking.

That voice became the crowdfunding pitch. It became the video. It became every touchpoint downstream.

“We had been around for six years and thought we knew who we are and what we’re good at. Taylor challenged us to clarify that. It’s almost like he just took the gem that was already there, polished it, turned it a half-turn so we could see it as something new — and that allowed us to really clarify and execute.”
Rassul Zarinfar · Founder, Buffalo Bayou Brewing

The Crowdfunding Campaign

Strategy first. Then the video. Then the raise.

With the clarity work locked, the production side moved fast. One sharp crowdfunding video. One customer-first message (not founder-first). One campaign page built on top of a foundation the team could stand behind without equivocation.

The pitch wasn’t about Buff Brew. It was about the people Buff Brew was built for. Rassul’s instinct was to lead with the founder story. The Clarity Sprint reframed that — founder voice second, customer at the center. The raise closed at $1,000,000 in six weeks.

In Rassul’s Words

On the work, the tempo, and the spinal realignment.

“Taylor’s a giant ball of energy. He’s going to take you a hundred miles an hour whether you want to go a hundred or not. He just drags you along by the snout.” Rassul Zarinfar · on tempo
“Taylor’s really good at taking the incessant drivel that falls out of my mouth and, by the final cut, making me sound remotely intelligent. If I sound like I’ve got any idea what I’m talking about, it’s everything to do with his editing skills.” Rassul Zarinfar · on messaging
“I was thinking about how to describe it — it was like going to a chiropractor for a spinal realignment. Okay. The spine’s in line. Go. Run.” Rassul Zarinfar · on the sprint
“The proof’s in the pudding. It was worth every penny and worth every minute I spent on the project, because time’s more valuable than money. We raised $1 million in six weeks, and I couldn’t have done that without Taylor and without him being able to take that gnarly mess of a message and just distill it down to A, B, C, execute.” Rassul Zarinfar · on the outcome
