Independent Label · Electronic Press Kits · Nashville
David Bach had just joined with industry legends John and Dino Elefante—John was the lead vocalist of Kansas, and the brothers went on to run Sound Kitchen Studios in Franklin, TN (home to sessions for Taylor Swift, Faith Hill, Rush, Dolly Parton, and Willie Nelson)—to launch Selectric Records. He heard the name Taylor Gahm thrown around Nashville and brought him in to develop electronic press kits the independent label would present to major record labels. The result was a bidding war. Sony won the contracts.
“We would roll in there and blow people’s doors off. Time and time again, they were knocked out with Taylor’s work, and it was his skills in the big picture of visual imaging that continued to impress.”David Bach, VP Business Operations, Brainwave Studios

Taylor merged creativity with business smarts for Selectric Records. He created the entire portfolio of videos, photos, and media for the label’s artists, and laid the groundwork for what became a bidding war between Universal and Sony.
Executives at Selectric had heard of Gahm’s success—he’d helped sign The Finalist to Maverick, Madonna’s record label. David Bach had just joined with John and Dino Elefante to create Selectric Records after years as an executive at major labels in Nashville. Bach recalled: “I had heard the name thrown around… I am always looking for new talent, so when I went into a new label venture—Selectric Records—I looked at Taylor’s work, watched some clips, and I knew we had found someone who could deliver high quality video that fit independent label needs.”
Gahm developed electronic press kits that the label presented directly to major record label executives. Bach describes presenting at Universal and Sony: “We would roll in there and blow people’s doors off. Time and time again, they were knocked out with Taylor’s work, and it was his skills in the big picture of visual imaging that continued to impress.” A bidding war resulted between Universal and Sony. Sony won the contracts.
Bach, with twenty years in the music business, notes: “Sometimes that works, and sometimes it doesn’t. Taylor was able to listen, and at the same time deliver up a very creative product that would still appeal to corporate executives, as we saw with Sony and Universal. Taylor is going to hear what the client has to say and articulate that in a creative fashion.”
